Too much Homework

I am still working on finishing The Death Cure, but I haven't had much time to read anything other than The Catcher in the Rye, which is a great book and you all should read it (because you have to for class, HA).

I will let you all know how The Maze Runner series ends when I get there.  But enough about me, now it is time for the Blog of the Week!

According to our judges, Stormi, Ashley, Marrisa, Kenzie and Irem,
"Navia should recieve blog of the week because she makes a very good point about reading a series and never finishing, but she also shows determination in reading Harry Potter.  It's inspirational for everyone else and is interesting."

Way to go Navia!

And the winner is...

The council (Emily, Zoe, Kyra, Navia and Maddie) has deliberated for much time and we have decided...

Anni's blog is the winner!  Her blog posts are so cute and funny, you can't help but smile while reading them.  She talks about how she feels about the books in depth, not just saying "It's good..." or "Yeah, I like it..."  Plus it doesn't hurt that she is a huge Harry Potter fan ;)

Congratulations Anni!

Love Hate Relationship

So I have a love hate relationship with books that are a part of a series.  Right now I just started the third book in the Maze Runner trilogy.  I hate that I finish one book and then need to immediately go out and get the next one, but I love that I have something to read that I am invested in and want to find out what happens next.  The first two books in the series were great- not too difficult to read, so I can read them leisurely when I have other stuff to do, plus they were really exciting.  Here is a little summary in case you want to check them out:

The Maze Runner- Boy gets put in a giant maze with several other boys but doesn't remember anything about his past life or why they are there.  Must figure out why they are there and find a way out.
This one really starts to get good about half way through, so bear with the beginning...

Book two  in the series: The Scorch Trials- Boys are in different situation than first book, but still intense and now that I care about the characters, this one is even better than the first.  That is all I will say in the spirit of no spoilers.

I must say now that I am on the third book, The Death Cure, I will probably not be grading too many of your essays until I finish.  Sorry, but it is just that good.

Reading is Awesome!

Welcome to my independent reading blog. At the moment I am reading "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie. I just started, but so far I am really enjoying the book. I think the main character is funny and down-to-earth, and I can easily relate to him. Another thing that I like about the book is that the author has quite a few drawings thrown in throughout the story. I think these help keep the story interesting and add more humor to the overall tone of the book. My favorite drawing so far is one he did of his goofy looking math teacher who is bald and yet still has dandruff.

Not only is the book funny and the characters easy to relate to, but I feel the story topic is important as well. Once we look past the funny drawings and witty anecdotes, we see real hardships of a young man growing up on an Indian Reservation. He is honest about how he feels and what it is to be, "Just a poor reservation kid living with his poor family on the poor Spokane Indian Reservation." I can't wait to read more!
