Reading is Awesome!

Welcome to my independent reading blog. At the moment I am reading "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie. I just started, but so far I am really enjoying the book. I think the main character is funny and down-to-earth, and I can easily relate to him. Another thing that I like about the book is that the author has quite a few drawings thrown in throughout the story. I think these help keep the story interesting and add more humor to the overall tone of the book. My favorite drawing so far is one he did of his goofy looking math teacher who is bald and yet still has dandruff.

Not only is the book funny and the characters easy to relate to, but I feel the story topic is important as well. Once we look past the funny drawings and witty anecdotes, we see real hardships of a young man growing up on an Indian Reservation. He is honest about how he feels and what it is to be, "Just a poor reservation kid living with his poor family on the poor Spokane Indian Reservation." I can't wait to read more!
